Important Message from Our School Nurse

Dear Parent/guardians,

Several times in the past week students have felt ill and called or texted home for dismissal without coming in to the nurse's office.  I will not keep a student in school if parents want them dismissed, but I would like to be able to assess illness and injuries prior to dismissal.  If I am in class the office can always reach me and I can leave class.

If several students have the same/similar symptoms and I see and notice this, then it is possible to notify other parents and tell them the warning signs of illness and when to keep their child home   I can ask the maintenance staff to wipe down doorknobs and stair rails, which is not a regular part of daily cleaning but may help.

Last, if your child is home with 'flu symptoms please let the office know when you call them in ill.  It's helpful for me and for the Department of Health to be able to monitor flu in VT.

Here is a chart that might be of help.  what is the difference between a cold and the flu?

Thank you for your cooperation,
